This project is an audio documentary called ‘The Invisibility Surrounding Asexuality’ which explores asexuality and its wider identities under the umbrella. In particular, it considers how it is seen as an invisible sexual orientation through the use of personal stories, thoughts and opinions. Many people are unfamiliar with the label or at least don’t quite know what it means and those who do often disregard it as a sexuality and judge people for it. Through creating this project it aims to challenge misconceptions of asexuality presented by the media and change people’s perceptions of it. It will highlight the issues of asexual representation in the media and how that impacts the experiences of an ace-identifying person; does it affect coming out and why that might be the case?  A large number of asexuals struggle to come out but hopefully with more asexual awareness like this project is doing, this will change.
